Yoi, Yah Sounding Synths

Started by Biobird

Can someone please enlighten me on how to make this classic dubstep synth?

That's a very baited subject, so I'm afraid I'm going to bow out of it except what I write below. Hopefully others will share insight (though I'd recommend trying another forum, like one geared towards dubstep).

However I'll mention one useful protip which is

Saw -> LPF -> SR Redux
The LPF opens and closes, so the sound goes dull-bright-dull over time.
The Redux downsampling (e.g. the FX filter in Serum "SampHold" set around 600 Hz).

What happens is, the LPF cutoff moving creates some motion for change in the peak nyquist reflections (which are lower than normal nyquist reflections, due to the SR redux) and this produces contrary-motion mirror-image harmonics, which ends up sounding like a vocal tract to our ears (if you use the formant filter, you'll notice similar contrary-motion peaks) however it also provides the grit of SR redux.

Thank you very much, the Formant-11 Filter with the modulated cutoff was pretty what I was looking for. Your tip is much appreciated

I'm actually working on this now
enter this formula
sin(2*w*pi+z*20*sin(2*w*pi+sin(16*2*w*pi)*.2))
