Science of Synthesis

This isn't exactly an xfer question, but can anyone point me in the direction of some good resources for understanding the actual science behind synthesis? Something mid to advanced. I'm pretty happy with my sound design but I'd love to know what's really going on. I'm especially interested in FM, additive synthesis, and distortion.

Also id love to understand more about actually creating wave forms. Is there any science behind that that would help me create wavetables with the sound i desire within serum? or is it more of an art. Meaning i just have to continue doing what I'm doing by experimenting and seeing what sounds best.

Thanks for the reply! I'll check out the book you linked. I have a pretty good grasp on harmonics but nevertheless I'll check out the wavetable thread.
