Gateing In Serum...

Started by Ad Rem

Hello Everyone I am Ad Rem and Ive been trying to discover new synths that have a gate effect on them and i was wondering if serum can be do that effect with some control?

this is a track i made with a synth plug in that has a gate effect i was wondering if i could recreate some of it with serum?

Let me know what you think thanks!

  • If you mean trancegate / pattern volume type effects (I think this what you mean listening to your link), this is very easy to do in Serum, using an LFO routed to Global->Amp and shift-drawing on the LFO graph for your desired rhythmic pattern.

  • If you mean a traditional audio gate, of course you can add this after Serum (or any synth) in your host.

Warm Regards,
Steve

I personally would just use MIDI, e.g. short MIDI notes (e.g. 16th notes that only last for half of their duration) with longer notes on the higher pitches.   I would recommend posting in the Serum registered user forum if you're looking for some help replicating a particular sound, as there are some helpful people there!

Thanks Steve,
Actually I just figured it out. Used the MATRIX with the Source set to LFO2 and used Global > Amp for the destination as you said. In LFO2 I set the rate to 1/16 and the grid to 2. Then I drew a square shape in the first half of the LF0, and the second half is flat. For the filter I used a Band 24 and I assigned Macro 1 to the Cutoff. It works great! But I will check out for tips in the forum section you suggested.
