Expanding Serum's Midi Learn

Started by jcgnam

Is there any chance Serum's midi-learnable parameters will be expanded in future versions?

  • LFO Rise
  • LFO Delay
  • LFO Smooth
  • Wavetable selection forward and backward
  • Filter Type selection forward and backward
  • Sub Osc Shape
  • Filter Keytracking Toggle
  • Noise OneShot Toggle
  • Noise Pitch Toggle
  • Filter A/B/N/S Toggles
  • LFO Mode and Option Toggles

It frustrates me that none of the above are midi mappable, particularly the first 3, since they are the only knobs in the GUI which aren't, and since they have a full range of values instead of just on/off. Personally, I prefer to operate my VST's with as many physical controls mapped as possible, as if they are a hardware synth. It's annoying to have to take my hands off the instrument and grab the mouse for so many miscellaneous functions; preferably I should only have to touch the mouse to operate the mod matrix and assign modulations.

Thanks.

The reason these aren't (currently) MIDI mappable is that they aren't automatable parameters, so it requires a bit of a hack to include them in MIDI map assignments.

I'd recommend to repost this in the Serum requests thread in the Serum registered user forum, here:

Also FWIW, you can currently advance wavetables (or presets) with user-assigned cc's:

Thanks for the tip about the advancing wavetables and presets. I got that part working as desired, though I was ever so slightly disappointed that "Wavetable Osc N" wasn't referring to the sub oscillator shape.

Despite my nitpicks, Serum is a great synth! I just wish the midilearn implementation was a little more all-inclusive.
