Even when my project in FL 11.1.1 is not playing, CPU spikes 20% back and forth when activated. I know this is a free plugin, but its one of my favorites :/
There are two possible fixes I can think of for this.
You can try to restrict buffering with FL's Fruity Wrapper(the VST you use to load external VSTs in FL)
Navigate yourself to the top left of the window, you will see a Gear, click it.
Under the Processing tab, check "Use fixed sized buffers" - it may cause latency which can be fixed with FL's automatic Latency Compensation.
The only other possible fix I can think of is that it's trying to actually process 'nothing', which in some VSTs cause more CPU usage than necessary.
To fix this you use the mute on the effect's slot linked up to automation. You'll have to set up the automation manually to mute when nothing is being played, thus not trying to process the sound of 'nothing'.
These are the only two fixes I can think about for now.
