Anyone know how the new ryzen amd 1700x performaes in ableton and serum compared to recent i7 intels, know there most to it then just core, chatch and clock numbers.

Compare FLOPS performance for the closest relevant published benchmark for DSP performance.
I've been curious about this myself. Running an AMD Fx-8350 8 core CPU and get pretty high CPU usage with Serum, even with relatively simple patches (and keeping an eye on the number of voices). Thinking Intel is the way to go for most audio stuff. Fewer, but faster cores. Since AFAIK in Ableton for example, a given track can't use more than one core, so it's better to have a few powerful cores rather than a bunch of mediocre ones, unless you are running dozens of tracks I suppose.
Thinking of moving to an i7 7700k pretty soon.

Also, based on what Steve just said, Intel CPUs are probably the way to go since they are generally better with Floating Point operations (FLOPS):
